 Prof. Dr. Ewa Żebrowska
Head of the Research Team
University of Warsaw Professor, 2010-2015 head of the Chair of German Philology at University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, holder of numerous international scholarships: DAAD, ÖAD, GFPS, Marion von Dönhoff, University of Innsbruck scholarship (2004), University of Vienna Rector’s scholarship (2006). She took part in: many international scientific internship programmes (Germany: Bayreuth, Kiel, Berlin, Greifswald, Austria: Klagenfurt, Innsbruck) and various international scientific conferences (Paris-Sorbonne, China-Shanghai, Amsterdam, Budapest, Alcala, Sevilla, Rodos, Jena, Vienna, Innsbruck, Veszprem, Sofia).
She is a member of Acta Neophilologica journal editorial board, Zeitschrift des Verbandes Polnischer Germanisten academic journal Program Committee, and the Journal of Multimodal Studies Scientific Board.
She is a member of numerous scientific associations: Polskie Towarzystwo Językoznawcze (Polish Linguistic Association), Internationale Vereinigung für Germanistik (International Association of German Studies), Polskie Towarzystwo Lingwistyki Stosowanej (Polish Association of Applied Linguistics). She is the head of Stowarzyszenie Germanistów Polskich (Polish Association of German Philologists). Her scientific interests include: applied linguistics, text linguistics, eye-tracking, and media studies. She authored more than 60 scientific publications, including three monographs.
 Prof. Dr. Paweł Szerszeń
Assistant Professor at Languages for Special Purposes Section at Institute of Specialised and Intercultural Communication (earlier: Institute of Anthropocentric Linguistics and Culturology) at University of Warsaw, teaching internship plenipotentiary at Institute of Anthropocentric Linguistics and Culturology as well as at the Institute of Specialised and Intercultural Communication (from 2013), and plenipotentiary of the Germanistische Institutspartnerschaften (GIP) Program (from 2015).
Member of the following scientific associations: Polskie Towarzystwo Lingwistyki Stosowanej (Polish Applied Linguistics Association), Polskie Towarzystwo Neofilologiczne (Polish Association of Modern Philology), Internationale Vereinigung für Germanistik ( International Association of German Studies), Polskie Stowarzyszenie Germanistów ((Polish German Language Researchers Association), and Polskie Towarzystwo Tłumaczy Przysięgłych i Specjalistycznych (The Polish Society of Sworn and Specialized Translators TEPIS).
His scientific interests include: applied linguistics – translation studies and glottodidactics (application of electronic media in foreign language and translation didactics), linguistics of languages for special purposes, text linguistics (comparative analysis of specialised texts, hypertext research), and comparative linguistics.
2008 – 2012 he was secretary of the editorial board of Przegląd Glottodydaktyczny (Glottodidactics Review), managing editor and secretary of the journal Lingwistyka Stosowana/ Applied Linguistics/ Angewandte Linguistik.
2010 – 2014 he coordinated on the Polish side an international research programme Linguistisch Inteligente Softwaresysteme für die Sprach-
und Übersetzerausbildung (Linguistically intelligent software systems for teaching foreign languages and translator training).
Currently participating in two international scientific research projects within the bilateral collaboration with the University of Wuppertal (GIP): WIKA (Research on language needs for professional purposes) and EDEKA-Wissenportal (Research on communicative transfer of specialised knowledge in companies).
He authored more than 40 scientific publications, including two monographs: Glottodydaktyka a (hiper)teksty internetowe (Glottodidactics and Internet (hyper)texts), Platformy (glotto)dydaktyczne. Ich implementacja w uczeniu specjalistycznych języków obcych ((Glotto)didactical platforms. Implementing them in the process of teaching languages for special purposes.
Marta Kaliska, Ph.D.
Italian philologist, since 2011 assistant professor in the Institute of Specialized and Intercultural Communication. In the years 2011-2014 responsible for Italian courses syllabi development; assistant in the Department of Italian Studies at the University of Warsaw from 2005 to 2011. Her teaching experience includes courses in Italian at every level of proficiency, phonetics, descriptive grammar and stylistics of Italian for specific purposes. She has carried out courses at the University of Warsaw and at foreign universities, such as University of Bologna, Malta, Genova, Pavia. She has obtained three fellowships of the University of Perugia.
She is a member of Polish Society of Applied Linguistics, Society for Italian Studies and Associazione Internazionale Professori di Italiano. Current research focused on foreign language teaching, the action-oriented approach, the use of information and communications technologies in teaching, corpus-based teaching, as well as the development of pragmatic, cultural and intercultural competences. In the years 2012-2013 she was a member of the University Committee on Academic Education Programmes, responsible for establishing educational effects for Applied Linguistics studies. She is a co-authoress of the three-volume series of Italian course books Va bene! for Polish secondary school that consists of main course books, exercise books and novel teachers’ book published online. The project is designed for the years 2013-2016 and it is carried out in collaboration with the publishing house Nowela. In addition, Marta Kaliska is the authoress of over 20 papers devoted to didactic issues and Italian linguistics.
Marcin Łączek, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor at the Institute of Specialised and Intercultural Communication at the University of Warsaw, doctorate in linguistics (2013). EFL/ESL/EAL teacher/lecturer in all types of state (and public) schools in Poland and England (Qualified Teacher Status for England and Wales awarded by the General Teaching Council for England in 2006); EFL teacher in military units (including special operations unit). Translator /assistant in international corporations.
His research interests include: traditional and applied linguistics; discourse analysis (especially classroom discourse in English as a foreign/second/additional language); glottodidactics – mainly innovative versus traditional methods and approaches to foreign language teaching and learning (especially EFL/ ESL/ EAL).
Author of 2 monographs, more than 20 articles (published both in Poland and abroad), magazine/newspaper articles for the general public, member of national and international editorial boards. Participated in more than 20 conferences/seminars/workshops organised by e.g. Luton Borough Council, Institute of Education University of London. Former/current member of such associations as: GERAS, PTLS, IATEFL, BAAL, LAGB, PhilSoc, NOT, IFT, TEPIS.
 Piotr Romanowski, Ph.D.
is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Applied Linguistics, Warsaw University and a Lecturer at Krosno State College. He earned his MA in English Language Studies from the Adam Mickiewicz University of Poznan and was awarded a PhD in Applied Linguistics by the Jagiellonian University in Cracow. He has been involved in the training of students and in-service teachers in the field of English Language Teaching Methodology for twenty years. His main areas of interest include: Second Language Acquisition, Bilingualism and Multilingualism. He also investigates intercultural communication within the context of foreign language teaching. Having received several scholarly grants from Foundation for the Development of Education System, EEA Grants – Norway Grants, Canadian Embassy to Poland, Global Awareness Society International in Bloomsburg (Pennsylvania) he participated in numerous seminars and conferences in Europe, Canada, the United States, Asia and Australia. He has also realized two Grundtvig projects within the Lifelong Learning Programme. Being a member of such prominent organizations as IATEFL, Polish Association of Modern Languages, Global Awareness Society International, Linguistic Society of Canada and the United States, AUSACE Arab-US Association for Communication Educators, Global Academic Network, Multidisciplinary Research Association he is a speaker at their annual conferences. In his academic career he has published over twenty papers and one monograph. He has lectured in England, Spain, Romania, Iceland, Portugal, Hong Kong, Japan, the United States and Canada.
 Ewa Zwierzchoń-Grabowska, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor at the Institute of Specialised and Intercultural Communication at the University of Warsaw. She received her doctorate (2006) from the University of Warsaw for her PhD thesis on “Internet. Theoretical model of Internet-based glottodidactic process” and she continues her interests in Internet-based foreign language learning and teaching. Now, her main research interests lie in computer-assisted translation and applications of video eye-tracking in translation studies. She is a member of the Polish Association of Applied Linguistics and Verband Polnischer Germanisten.
Joanna Otocka, M.A.
Joanna Otocka is a tutor at the Institute of Specialist and Intercultural Communication, Faculty of Applied Linguistics, University of Warsaw. In 2003, she graduated from the Institute of Applied Linguistics. She is preparing doctoral thesis in business communication.
She specializes in teaching languages for specific purposes (English and Russian), as well as teaching translation of specialist texts. For many years, she has cooperated in the area of language support with large international corporations. For several years she has cooperated with the Saint-Petersburg State University of Economics. Joanna Otocka is a member of the editorial team of Academic Debuts in our Institute, as well as a member of the Research Center For Business Communication Audit.
Her research interests include Business English as Lingua Franca and language interference within the confines of the former.
Marcin Możdżonek, M.A.
Translation and interpreting lecturer at Institute of Specialised and Intercultural Communication, University of Warsaw. In 2014 he started his PhD course and in his research he focuses chiefly on finding new ways of training consecutive interpreters. Member of Wydziałowa Rada Doktorantów (Faculty PhD student Council) and Rada Samorządu Doktorantów UW (University of Warsaw PhD Students’ Self-government), Recruitment Committee at Institute of Specialised and Intercultural Communication (2015). Participant of a scientific project: E-Bibliografia polskich publikacji naukowych z dziedziny terminologii i języków specjalistycznych (E-Bibliography of Polish scientific publications on terminology and languages for special purposes). Germanistische Institutspartnerschaften (2015) scholarship holder.
Member of the scientific associations: Polskie Towarzystwo Lingwistyki Stosowanej (Polish Applied Linguistics Association), Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Grecji (Friends of Greece Association).
Scientific interests include: applied linguistics – translation and interpreting studies, training interpreters and translators, glottodidactics, linguistics of languages for special purposes, contrastive linguistics, anthropocentric linguistics, cultural linguistics, philology and cultural studies – ancient languages (Greek and Latin), ancient history, modern Greek, and modern Greek literature and music. |
